Proposed development off Kedleston Road - update 2    July 17, 2014

From Dr Paul Hodson, Chair, Quarndon Parish Council planning subcommittee 15.07.14

You may have been as surprised as I was, to learn from a recent article in the Derby Telegraph, that Catesby Estates Ltd are proposing a scheme to build 400 or so dwellings off Kedleston Road in the Parish of Quarndon. Your Council discussed the proposal at its June meeting; a number of concerns were expressed and we discussed what actions we needed to take to represent you effectively.

The Council, as a statutory consultee, will study the formal application when it is made and then submit our considered response to Amber Valley Planning Department, however, we need your help. We think it very important that the application is not decided by the officers under ‘delegated powers’, but by a meeting of the full AV Planning Committee, this can be achieved if enough of you write personally with your concerns/objections to Amber Valley Planning Dept. Town Hall, Ripley , Derbyshire, DE5 3BT

Following our July Council meeting, I have had contacts with Cllr Philip Hickson JP of the Allestree Conservative Group of the Derby City Council, who, along with Pauline Latham MP are strenuously opposing the proposal. John Cunningham and myself also attended the Exhibition by Catesby on 10th July where we joined with Cllr. Roy Webb, another of the Allestree councillors, in asking for information about how Catesby Estates forsaw the effects of the proposed development on traffic, transport, schooling etc. The answers were not encouraging.

There is a lot of information on the Allestree Councillors’ Facebook Page http://tinyurl.com/Allestree

An action group has been set up; The Allestree Residents Association, chaired by David Anderson and they can be contacted on residentsagainstdevelopment@yahoo.com

If you wish to pass comments or suggesions to Quarndon Parish Council then please contact the clerk on quarndonpc@virginmedia.com

You are also welcome to come to the next parish council meeting where the item will be on the agenda. The meeting will be held on Monday 28th July at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.
